Life in modern times seems to be filled with stress, anxieties, which is ironic since all this technology etc.. was supposed to make life less complex, less stressful etc.. but seems automation created more stress. Life is filled with irony. What do you do to ease stress if you don’t have a lot of free time to do lengthy meditation or anything extensive, well there are things you can do. Here are five tips to help out.
1. Take regular breaks from the firing line. Working without regular breaks leads to built up stress and tension. Make sure you have at least one 15-minute break in the morning and one in the afternoon as well as at least 20 minutes for lunch. ITry to eat lunch away from your workstation. Equally, if you have a lot to deal with in your life right now, taking at least a day, or a weekend elsewhere- to get some breathing space will really help. Even just a day away from the firing line will help you to get some distance from the problems and help you to gather your thoughts.
2. Regular exercise can help relieve stress, depression and anxiety. Exercise releases endorphins into your system and will give you a natural boost. Trick is knowing which exercises to do, ones that won’t keep you in brooding or thinking state of mind, such as weight lifting, or treadmills, even jogging can keep you in a fixed state, thinking about stuff unless you have a mediation cd or podcast you can listen to to take you out of the worry mode. Look to competitive sports such as squash, tennis, badminton and circuit training are all excellent examples. If you are like me and have fibromyalgia well, then exercise is tricky, so in my case, a leisurely walk in the evening, near the seaport, park, nature in some way with soothing music playing helps. You need to maybe talk so someone who can according to your heath needs recommend the right exercise for you.
3. Stop beating yourself up. It solves nothing and simply feeds the dark beast. Each time you beat up on yourself, you erode confidence and self-esteem. Never tell yourself you’re useless, worthless, stupid, hopeless, boring, ugly, and a loser, so you are better off by yourself. You would never tell others it’s okay to say such things to themselves or other people and so why say it to yourself. Accept you’re not perfect and that you make mistakes just like everybody else does and cut yourself some slack. Yes, we should learn from our mistakes and change any patterns that need changing, but to constantly beat yourself up won’t make that happen. From this day, make a pact with me to never indulge in negative self talk ever again. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE.
4. Isolation is another problem experienced by stress, depression and anxiety sufferers. OK, there are times when you just want your own company and if you are a creative person, in the creative field, then yeah you need that alone to time create at times and just to decompress. Make sure it is not where all you do in that down, or alone time is brood over and over again on problems and events and beat yourself up for hours on end. Instead, use isolation more positively. Occupy your mind by tackling a jigsaw puzzle, a logic problem, a crossword, read a book or get into painting, playing a musical instrument or whatever it is you have an interest in. In this way, isolation will help you to grow instead of causing you further pain.
5. Television, radio and newspapers can all supply you with a daily hit of negativity and help lower your mood. In the main, they concentrate on the negative side of life: crime, corruption, war, scandal and natural disasters and can give you a distorted view of reality. Not to mention the amount of image manipulation they subject you to. Give yourself a break from this, maybe tune into the Hallmark channel more watch feel good movies and don’t get into a pity party, celebrate that there is beauty even in the media. Subscribe ti the Gaua channel, get some positive visuals etc… Give it a shot.
